With the 2019 Distance Carnival now four weeks away Event Director Tim Cornish can now confirm the additions of Ben Moynihan and Samuel Tanner to the Mens 1500M field suggesting a crack at the 3:40 barrier may not be out of question.
Moynihan a 2012 World Junior representative recently returned to form recording a 3:43.41 personal best in Belgium during his 2018 European campaign. Now coached by Australia’s Justin Rinaldi as part of the ‘fast8 track club’ Moynihan will be looking to make early impressions on the New Zealand domestic season.
Last years runner up Samuel Tanner has also confirmed that he will be back for the 2019 addition. In 2018, Tanner recorded a time of 3:46.69 securing a World Junior Qualifier where he would go on to finish 13th overall. Tanner has been in red hot form recording 3:43.01 at the recent Cooks Classic eclipsing Nick Willis’s U19 national record.
